Summer Camps
The Iowa Philosophy Lyceum: Pre-college philosophy summercamp.
P4C Denton: Denton, Texas’s first-ever P4C summercamp.
The Utah Lyceum: a non-residential philosophy camp held each summer on the campus of Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah. The camp is free for all participants and is open to any middle or high-school student. We think that a philosophical education is too important to wait until college, so participants receive instruction in formal and informal reasoning, the history of philosophical thought, and critical thinking from philosophy faculty at SUU. We emphasize helping students learn how to think carefully about difficult topics rather than instructing them on what to think. To that end, Lyceum instructors help participants identify, research, and present about a philosophical topic of their choosing during the course of the week.
Western Michigan Lyceum: a free summer camp for high school students, facilitated by philosophy faculty and graduate students. At the Lyceum, students engage in discussions, participate in fun activities and games, and improve their critical thinking and writing skills. Students also get to see more of WMU’s campus, including free daily lunches and a theme-related field trip. Participants in the Lyceum come from high schools from across and beyond the state of Michigan.
